Many famous designers have provided
designs for Tomioka Shoten.
The second featured designer is Mauricio
Clavelo Kozlovski.
The first encounter with Mauricio:
Tomioka, the company's president, met
Mauricio in September 2012, when he was working as an art director at HAVILAND.
Since then, he visited Mauricio every
time he visited France thus deepening their friendship. Six years later, in
2018, the three companies such as Serdaneli (the contemporary lifestyle brand),
Mauricio Clavero Kozlowski, and Tomioka Shoten collaborated to release
doorknobs which incorporated Kaba-zaiku.

Further collaboration:
After five years, Mauricio Clavero
Kozlowski and Tomioka Shoten launched a new collaboration in August 2023
sparked by Mauricio's first visit to Kakunodate.
After multiple prototypes, the Sensitive
Wall Covering Panel was released at the interior ＆ design trade show
Maison et Objet in Paris in January 2024.
Profile:
After working at a design agency in
Paris, he established his own design studio in 2005. In 2010, he became the art
director of a prestigious French group consisting of well-known lifestyle
brands. He is active in applying his knowledge of design and traditional
techniques to projects such as modern luxury homes and super yachts.

The pattern of the wild Cherry Tree bark is specific and
unrepeatable. A kind of fingerprint of the tree, which reinforce the
singularity and rareness of the final product. Each piece is therefore unique.

collection creates a dynamic space. There are two types, one with bronze and
one without, and the orientation and arrangement can be changed. It is perfect
for decorating the side of a staircase or a hotel lobby.

How did you like it?
This collaboration between Akita's traditional crafts and a Parisian designer has come to fruition after a long time. The result shows Mauricio's deep knowledge of traditional crafts
