A matte wild cherry bark tea caddy that highlights the natural allure of bark
A project that reimagines Kaba-zaiku (wild cherry bark craft) from a modern perspective, transforming it into a form of contemporary craftsmanship. A transparent matte coating is applied to enhance the organic texture and subtle irregularities of the cherry bark. This approach makes it possible to use materials that were previously difficult to incorporate with traditional Kaba-zaiku techniques, enabling more efficient use of limited natural resources. The interior is finished using time-honored methods, with a polished reddish-purple tone that creates a striking contrast against the understated matte exterior.
