Winner of the 10th Wood Design Award 2024

We won an award at the 10th Wood Design Award 2024 .

We are pleased to announce that Tomioka Shoten Ltd. (Address: Kakunodate-cho, Senboku-shi, Akita Prefecture, Representative Director: Tomioka Hiroki)'s Sensitive Wall Covering Panel has won an award at the 10th annual Wood Design Award 2024 (Sponsored by: Japan Wood Design Association, Chair of the Judging Committee: Akaike Manabu, General Judging Committee Member: Kuma Kengo).

The Wood Design Awards are an awards program that recognizes products and services that use wood to solve various social issues and promotes them both domestically and internationally. This year, 366 works were submitted, and our wall panel won an award in the "Products" category out of 226 award-winning works.

In order to create jobs in the birch crafts production area, we currently have 11 designers working on creative projects. The Sensitive Wall Covering Panel was created by Mauricio Clavero Kozlowski (who lives in Paris).

[About our sustainable efforts]
Our company stocks unused wild cherry bark that is not suitable for tea canisters, the main product of Kabazaiku. We also produce a lot of scraps. As a sustainable initiative, we turn the larger pieces into "wall panels," the long and thin pieces into reinforcing materials for "magewappa" and "gagaku instruments," and the smaller pieces into "brooches," "earrings," and "birch stickers." Finally, we use the pieces that are too small to be shaped as ingredients for "herbal medicine" and "incense." Therefore, we reuse everything, even unused materials, without waste. The "birch stickers" also create jobs at local vocational facilities.
